Gathering, 2018
Silk, wood, metal rods, acrylic paint, contact paper
A site-specific installation made for ISSUE TWO: Devotional, a group show curated by FOUR-D in which each artist contributed a written piece alongside their visual or performative work.
Excerpt from paired writing:
I. I am gathering moments as layers—actions and sentiments accumulating. The vocabulary of this strata may be the words here or physical material or color itself (filtering through glass, imposed on a wall, infused into fabric). These accumulations of relation, gratitude, and gift are non-linear. They compile in a way that tricks your sense of depth and timely progression.
This is less about memory than cohesion, as landmark emotions and shifting connections are still occurring, concurrent.
II. [It is] as if all the color in art were a single complexly woven shawl I were drawing out of a pile of clothes. Not for the sake of color itself, but for the sake of what it is to be human, of the emotion, profound beyond explicit expression, from which color implicitly emanates. - Anne Truitt, Turn
